Netscape/AOL Download Ads
This is excellent! I love it. For those who use Netscape for downloading files
over the internet, I'm sure you hate getting those ads from AOL! All they do is
take up resources: cpu, ram, and reduces your download speed.
How to do it: No matter what you use for connecting to the Internet, be it a dial-up
account, cable, or whatever; you should have a firewall installed, at least the
software version. An up to date firewall such as
ZoneAlarm will prevent hack attacks.
Apart from
ZoneAlarm, you'll need a little handy utility called
X-NetStat.
Once you have both programmes installed on your system, make sure both are running, and start a
download.
Once the download has started, switch over to X-NetStat and check the servers connecting to your machine over TCP.
You'll notice something like ads.aol.com or something similar to that. Note down the correct spelling.
Cancel your
download.
Double click on the
ZoneAlarm icon in your system tray. Click on the Security tab. Click on Advanced. Click on Add. Click
on Host Site. Insert a description, and then enter the ads.aol.com (or whatever it is) server name. Click Next.
ZA will look up the IP address automatically for you. Click OK. Now start another
download. Notice anything different?
