Stop Banner Ads
Have you had enough of sites that don't load until the banner ad loads?
These pages can show you how to stop them taking up so much time and bandwidth.
To start, you'll need just one program running when you're connected to the internet. It's
called Zone Alarm. It's a personal firewall program for Windows users. Zone Alarm
will not only help stop banner ads, it'll also make your computer a lot
more secure on the internet.
If you already have a firewall installed on your computer that does not allow you to manually enter banned Internet addresses, click
here to learn of another, even simpler method of blocking banner ads.
If you do not already have a firewall installed on your computer, then please do so.
Once you have Zone Alarm installed and running on your computer, you can start blocking
those annoying ads - just like the ones on this page!
Zone Alarm is a very interesting program, and worth getting to know.
Once Zone Alarm has loaded, it'll put a little icon in your system tray, usually at the bottom
right of your screen, next to the time.
Double click on the Zone Alarm icon.
This will show the Zone Alarm application.
If you just see a rectangular box with 4 big icons, and five buttons along the bottom, click on the
Security button.
Here you will see a button called Advanced. Click on it.
When you click on Advanced, another box will pop-up with six different tabs. Click on the
Restricted Zone tab.
This is where you start adding the
addresses of ad servers.
A test would be to switch back to your browser, and load up the website,
http://www.fairfax.com.au. Take notice of all the graphical ads.
Now under the Restricted Zone in Zone Alarm, click on the Add button. Click on Host/Site. In both of
the fields shown, copy and paste this line: images.ads.fairfax.com.au
Click OK, and then click Apply.
Now re-load
http://www.fairfax.com.au in your browser. You'll notice a difference.
